"Lipids, Nutrition, Cancer" LNC

The INSERM Research Centre UMR866 ‘Lipids, Nutrition, Cancer - LNC’ was created the 1st of January 2007 and gathers several laboratories from the Université de Bourgogne, the INSERM, the EPHE et AgroSup.

The overall vocation of INSERM UMR866 is to promote fundamental and clinical research in the fields of cancer, nutrition, lipid biology, and cardiometabolic risk. Over the last years, and beyond common administration of UMR866, one main duty was to favour interactions between distinct subgroups in order

  • to increase the cohesion,
  • to set up and extend common facilities,
  • to support translational research and joined programs involving several UMR866 teams as well as clinical departments of the University Hospital and the CGFL anti-cancer center,
  • to welcome new/additional groups coming from both the University of Burgundy and outside, and
  • to create a well-identified specificity at the interface of cancer biology and metabolic disease.

On January 1st 2007, INSERM Research Center included 9 distinct groups, involving 211 persons (researchers + teaching-researchers + technicians/engineers + postdocs + PhD students). Four teams were involved in cancer biology, one in cancer epidemiology, and four in lipids and nutrition. Teams were as follows:

The current configuration of the Research center UMR866-LNC  gathers more than 200 researchers, teachers-researchers (including forty doctors), Engineers, Technicians, Post-Docs, PhD students and Students distributed in 8 teams:

  • ‘Chemotherapy, lipid metabolism, and anti-tumoral immune response’ - François Ghiringhelli
  • ‘Gene regulation in hematopoiesis and leukemogenesis’ - Laurent Delva
  • ‘Heat shock proteins: cell death, cell differentiation and tumorigenic properties’ - Carmen Garrido
  • ‘Epidemiology and clinical research in digestive oncology’ - Come Lepage
  • ‘Oxidative Stress and Cardiovascular Risk: Fundamental and Clinical Interplay’ - Catherine Vergely
  • ‘Pathophysiology of dyslipidemia’ - Bruno Vergès
  • ‘Sensing and metabolism of lipids and dietary contaminants in the oro-intestinal tract: effect on health and feeding behaviour’ - Philippe Besnard
  • ‘Lipid transfer proteins and lipoprotein metabolism’ - Laurent Lagrost

In addition, our research center hosts 2 other teams susceptible to join in during the next years:
– ‘Nitric oxide and cancer’ - Ali Bettaieb
–'Genetics of Developmental Anomalies - GAD’ – Laurence Faivre

  • Monoxyde d’azote et cancer’ – Ali Bettaieb
  • ‘Génétique des anomalies du développement - GAD’ – Laurence Faivre

Head of the LNC Research center, Dr Laurent Lagrost.
